Creative Indoor Play Ideas
School holidays have arrived and when it's too cold or wet to go anywhere, keep your kids busy and having fun inside with our creative indoor play ideas:
- Puzzles are always great fun and challenging for all ages
- Popcorn and Movie day - kids can stay dressed in their pyjamas and snuggle on the couch
- Cupcake decorating in the kitchen is loads of sweet fun - buy some plain muffins and let the kids decorate their own cupcake with icing and sugary toppings such as jelly tots, smarties and other toppings
- Create a sensory table - blindfold your child and allow them to feel and guess the object - fill some bowls with textured objects like grapes, cold cooked spaghetti, or raisins
- Indoor picnic or tea party - if it's too cold outside then bring the picnic indoors - you may need to move some furniture out the way first, then place a picnic blanket on the floor in the living area or lounge. Allow the kids to pack their own picnic basket with some snacks, serviettes, and paper plates
- Fingerprint art - by using the tips of your fingers, kids love creating animals or fairies with paint on paper - simple but lots of fun
- Treasure hunt - wrap some small old toys in foil (to look like silver) and hide these objects around the house - give your children a torch to find these 'treasures'
- Build a fort - kids love being adventurous - transform the living room into a fun fort using chairs and blankets to make a cozy hideout
- Dress-up Day - get out old Halloween costumes or dress-up gear for some pretend play
- Story time - round up some good books, get comfy on the couch, and do an old-fashioned story time
